Large numbers of military personnel have made the Southern Pines/Pinehurst area their home over the long history of Ft Bragg. Lower property taxes, exceptional schools and safe, quiet neighborhoods are just a few of the points that attract active and retired military families to the Sandhills.

Having been born and raised in the SF family, I am all too familiar with the re-deployment/re-assignment scenario and the stresses it can cause for the entire family. There are positives as well. I experienced living in half a dozen cultures and spoke three languages before first grade because my father insisted we live off-base with the locals. Ofcourse there weren't on-base accommodations for families with ten kids anyway. We ended up in Moore County because out of all the places across the globe that we had been, this area was the most appealing for settling down in.
